Children’s Books

This colorful series was created by children I worked with in Micronesia and American Samoa. These Pacific students used coconut oil and oil pastels to make images of their island environments. The goal was to create readers in local Pacific languages and were culturally appropriate for children of the region.

These early readers were written and illustrated by both children and teachers in I taught through grants from the National Endowment for the Arts. Painted in watercolor and pen they are written in both English and read in the local Pacific language to assist in language acquisition and reading in the local language.
